Sizewell Scud imagines the impact that 12 years of Sizewell C construction traffic (at peak, 1500 HGVs and literally thousands of cars and hundreds of buses - every day! - on the A12 and Suffolk's tranquil rural roads) and the dust of its 35 meter high spoil piles will have on air quality in this area if planners give this project the go-ahead after the final Stage 3 consultation.
Latest research reveals that 17.9 million people live in places in the UK where particulate pollution exceeds World Health Organisation guidelines. East Anglia already suffers at times from ground level ozone and particulate pollution which during pollution episodes can be higher than anywhere else in the country. See George Monbiot's article Don't Breathe to find out more about the scandalous toxic impact of poor air quality, especially on our children.
Sizewell C construction poses a huge additional risk to local people’s health, particularly to children living or going to school near the A12.
Act now to ensure the Scud doesn’t come to us!
And why not get people together in your community or at your local school and campaign for protection of our air quality. I'd love to join in!
Why 'Scud'?
A friend who used to live in Sizewell told me that the locals there use 'scud' to describe the mist there. I like the dictionary definition too:
verb
1. move fast in a straight line because or as if driven by the wind.
noun
1. literary
a mass of vapoury clouds or spray driven fast by the wind.
a driving shower of rain or snow; a gust*
[*perhaps of dust?]
the action of moving fast in a straight line when driven by the wind: "the scud of the clouds before the wind”
2. a type of long-range surface-to-surface guided missile able to be fired from a mobile launcher.
It seems to sum it up pretty well...

It is also linked to incidence of mental illness, dementia, diabetes and poor birth outcomes.
In the likely event of your suffering any adverse effects from inhalation of this product, seek medical advice immediately. Scientists estimate that air pollution could be responsible for 36,000 deaths in the UK every year.
